Pysanky: The Art of Ukrainian Egg Decorating Class

Ukrainian eggs or ‘Pysanky’ are decorated using beeswax and dyes that are applied in layers. Participants will learn techniques, designs, and historical significance of this process and go home with a beautiful egg. No experience is necessary and ages 16 through adult are welcome to register. Participants will be provided with eggs and decorating materials. Please bring an apron or old shirt and an egg carton to bring your egg home in. Limited Seating. Cost $30 all materials included.

Instructor Jennifer Santa Maria's Experience: I have taught Ukrainian egg decorating and techniques in a variety of settings to a wide audience, from children to seniors. I have instructed several groups and held demonstrations at many Libraries, Art Centers and Art Museums on the East Coast including Brattleboro Art Museum in Vermont, Jerry’s Artist Outlet in Montclair NJ, Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton NJ, a teacher’s retreat in Hampton NH, the Chapel of Sacred Mirrors in Wappingers Falls, NY and the Center for Contemporary Art in Hudson Valley.

STORYBowl

Hosted by The Creativity Caravan and 73 See Gallery & Design Studio

Our StoryBowl is now going to be a monthly fundraiser for Toni’s Kitchen (every 4th Wednesday of the month). The folks from Toni’s will be making a pot of soup for our participants, and, in turn, the proceeds from the pay-what-you-can donation (suggested minimum donation is $15) will be given back to them to help with their programming and feeding so many hungry people in our community.

About StoryBowl: Everyone has a story to tell. We should all listen. StoryBowl offers participants an opportunity to experiment with storytelling in a unique and nourishing way. We gather and pass a bowl of story prompts around the table. Each person tells a true story based on that prompt, then hands the bowl to the person sitting next to them. Participants act as witnesses to the storyteller, not interrupting, crosstalk, or making commentary. We keep going, with the bowl making rounds several times, and conclude the evening with shared thoughts and observations. The experience is rich and deep, offering authentic and real-time connection, and providing an unexpected way of finding community through the practice of active listening. Hot soup and bread will be served. BYOB.
