Art Work is still available for purchase
Welcome to Catherine’s world. A world of quiet spaces. Seen and redeemed over time. Visited. Then remembered. Actually embraced. Places you perhaps have never seen, yet feel familiar with, because she pondered enough and through her expert skill brings you there – through shapes, forms, colors – intimacy expressed.
Catherine Kinkade is an accomplished landscape painter. A Master Pastelist of the Pastel Society of America, she also works in oil and monotype, and has exhibited all over the world. Her commissioned landscapes are in dozens of corporate and private collections including Tiffany, AT&T and Exxon. A founding mother of Viridian Print Studio, she has taught for many years at the Montclair Art Museum & the Van Vleck gardens. In her own words: “The work is intuitive, rather than conceptual. I want you to experience the piece and the place with me. It is not conceptual. I do extensive background research including plein air sketches on site, select my materials, and then put it all aside to let the piece flow.”
Steven Miller, Director, Morris Museum says: “Catherine Kinkade’s work follows a colorful landscape tradition that is an interesting combination of Pierre Bonnard and Richard Diebenkorn. Her large paintings, which rely on clear graphic arrangements, encompass appealing agricultural vistas that seem to go on forever, though they never lose their adherence to the picture plane. Her smaller works have an intimate delicacy that makes them quite immediate and fresh.” – Mary Z, curator
